CHAPTER 1

The memory of the lands

Sapporo is located on an alluvial fan created by the Toyohira River. Dotted around the very edge of the alluvial fan were ponds from which crystal-clear spring water gushed forth. In Ainu, these ponds were called mem. This is where the people who originally inhabited this land would sit and rest, and where daily life unfolded.

CHAPTER 2

In our name

Mem: Scattered places to sit and rest. For our name, we took a word that bears the memory of this land and added a concept of belonging that we describe as making the world your own home.
